Islington Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC)

PGDs for the supply of levonorgestrel and ulipristal under the Public Health Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) Locally Commissioned Service have been further extended until 30th September 2025 , to allow Public Health and the ICB time to undertake the necessary processes required.

Please see the extension letter and action accordingly if you have not already done so.

It is anticipated the service will run to 1 October 2025 when the national service is due to come in. Once we have confirmation of the timeline, your local Public Health team write to pharmacies to confirm.

This pharmacy-delivered locally commissioned service (LCS) provides access to free emergency hormone contraception among young women up to the age of 25 following an incident of unprotected sexual intercourse or failure of a contraceptive method, with the aim of preventing unplanned pregnancy. This is accompanied by the provision of appropriate contraceptive information and advice.

The LCS is for young women, between the age of 13 and 24,  who have had unprotected sexual intercourse within the past 72 hours.

The LCS EHC Service Specification and PGDs are available below.
